How Honest Mechanic builds a result
Honest Mechanic is designed to separate what the vehicle reported from what may explain it. The app can organize evidence and help you ask better questions, but it does not confirm an exact failed part by itself.
1. Capture
Depending on the selected workflow and what the vehicle exposes, the app may capture diagnostic trouble codes and their status, readiness monitors, live sensor samples, voltage, vehicle identification context, or session events. Missing or unsupported information remains missing; it is not invented.
2. Define the evidence scope
The result identifies whether the evidence came from a brief code read, a Quick Scan, a longer Pre-Purchase check, or a Guardian session. A short snapshot and a monitored session do not support the same conclusions.
3. Interpret without turning a code into a part
A diagnostic code describes a detected condition. It does not automatically prove which component caused it. Honest Mechanic uses structured automotive knowledge and ordered checks to explain plausible areas to inspect while keeping the exact cause unconfirmed when the evidence cannot establish it.
4. Explain with AI assistance
AI helps translate available evidence into clearer language and supports follow-up questions. It remains constrained by the data captured and can be incomplete or wrong. It is an explanation layer, not an independent physical inspection.
5. Show limitations and prepare the handoff
Results and mechanic-ready reports distinguish detected information, interpretation, missing evidence, limitations, and suggested next checks. The goal is to help the driver communicate more clearly before authorizing work—not to issue a safety clearance or final diagnosis.
What “validated” means here
Honest Mechanic uses automated tests for supported knowledge entries, unknown-code fallbacks, result/report contracts, purchase flows, and key integrations. Named adapters are tested separately. This is internal product validation; it is not an independent laboratory certification and should not be presented as one.
Report a result that appears wrong
Do not authorize a repair based only on an app result. Confirm important decisions with a qualified professional. Send product questions or suspected errors to support@honestmechanic.ai without including public VINs or personal information.
