Informational Vehicle Assistance

Honest Mechanic provides informational vehicle assistance using OBD-II data, vehicle context, app workflows, reports, chats, optional voice features, and AI-assisted explanations.

The app can help you understand vehicle signals, fault codes, readiness, Quick Scan results, DTC-only results, PrePurchase references, Guardian sessions, result summaries, and mechanic-ready reports.

Honest Mechanic is not a mechanic, repair shop, inspector, lawyer, insurer, or safety authority. It does not replace professional mechanic inspection, diagnosis, repair, safety advice, legal advice, or purchase advice.

No Safety Or Purchase Guarantee

Honest Mechanic does not guarantee that a vehicle is safe, problem-free, roadworthy, emissions-compliant, legally compliant, or worth purchasing. A clean-looking result does not mean a vehicle is safe, problem-free, roadworthy, or worth buying. It only means the app did not detect important signals in the data available to it.

OBD-II And Data Limitations

OBD-II cannot see every vehicle system. Brakes, tires, suspension, steering, body structure, crash history, rust, leaks, noises, physical wear, and some manufacturer-specific modules may not be visible through OBD-II. Not every issue creates a code. Data quality depends on the vehicle, adapter, connection, permissions, supported PIDs, and conditions during the scan.

Safe Use

You are responsible for safe driving, safe parking, legal compliance, and vehicle operation. Do not interact with the app while driving. Use voice guidance only when safe and operate the screen only when parked safely.

Guardian, voice, and OBD features are assistance tools only. They do not replace attentive driving, professional inspection, diagnosis, repair, or emergency judgment.

Compatible Adapter And Permissions

Some features require a compatible OBD-II adapter, Bluetooth or nearby-device permissions, microphone permission for voice, and vehicle signals supported by the vehicle and adapter. Honest Mechanic may not work with every vehicle, adapter, phone, operating system, or connection condition.

Plans, Purchases, And Billing

The Free plan is permanently available at no charge and is not a trial. The app also offers optional paid subscriptions and one-time purchases. Available products, prices, billing periods, renewals, and features are shown in the app before purchase.

Purchases are processed by the applicable app store and are subject to its purchase, billing, cancellation, refund, and restoration policies. Honest Mechanic does not receive or store your payment card details. We may receive and retain store purchase identifiers, product identifiers, transaction identifiers and metadata, and entitlement status needed to provide access, restore purchases, support users, maintain accounting records, protect service security, and prevent fraud.

Anonymous Owner And Device Identity

Honest Mechanic does not require an account with an email address and password. The app assigns an anonymous owner and uses a device-linked identity.

On compatible devices, reinstalling the app on the same physical device may recover the same anonymous owner when the protected device identity remains available. Recovery is not guaranteed between phones or after a device reset, loss of protected storage, or changes to platform-provided identifiers.

Restoring purchased access may separately depend on the applicable app store account and available purchase records.

Acceptable Use

Do not misuse the service, attempt unauthorized access, reverse engineer private APIs, interfere with app operations, submit malicious content, use the app to harm others, or use the app for unlawful purposes.

AI And Voice Limitations

AI-assisted explanations, chat responses, voice transcriptions, and spoken responses can be incomplete, delayed, misunderstood, or wrong. Use them as explanation aids, not as final diagnosis, repair instruction, safety clearance, legal advice, or purchase advice.

Limitation Of Liability

To the extent allowed by law, Honest Mechanic and its developers are not responsible for losses, damages, injuries, repair costs, purchase decisions, driving decisions, missed issues, adapter problems, data errors, downtime, or other outcomes based on app information. Use the app at your own risk and confirm important findings with qualified professionals.

Changes To The App Or Terms

We may update the app, features, limits, prices, or these Terms. If required legal versions change, the app may ask you to accept updated Terms, Privacy Policy, or safety disclaimer versions before continuing.
